Gladden Farms is no longer in danger of being in a "flood plain"!
The homeowner's scare began almost a year ago when FEMA designated 19 square miles of Marana real estate a flood plain. That meant residents would have to pay for pricey flood insurance. The Town of Marana officials hired an independant hydrological study, knowing that the majority of Marana is NOT in danger of flooding.
The new study reduces the flood zone areas from about 19 square miles down to 3 square miles. It also reduces the number of structures affected from approximately 2,600 down to 250. The study will save homeowners not in a flood plain more than $4,200 in insurance per year (or an additional $350 per month on our mortgage!)
Now there is one less obstical for the Gladden Farms Marketplace, The Shoppes at Tangerine (upscale mall), and the Northwest Hospital to begin construction. Now we wait for the economy to turn around and hope that the small businesses that were interested in our area a year ago are still in business and financially capapble of opening in the area!
